Movement for Hobbyists
Hobbies like mine – knitting, drawing, reading, etc – tend to have us sitting for long periods of time with a lot of little repetitive movements in the forearms, wrists and hands and a lot of stillness in the elbows, shoulders and spine.
Here is a small sequence of movements you can try to get the big areas moving again! Breath in and out for equal counts, and match the speed of your movement to your breath.
Don’t blow through barriers:
If you reach the end of your easeful range, end there.
If tension or symptoms begin to build – end there.
Don’t push through.
If you have enough movement or pain restrictions that some of these are a little too much, only do as much of the movement as you can.
You will be amazed at what you can gain over time when you respect your body’s current boundaries.
